Having a regular blog posting schedule is a great way to build a blog. But how do you go about organizing it? Heres my 7 day plan.

Blog Posting Schedule

The schedule I’m suggesting below is for 3 posts per week. If you want to do more, try combining every 2 days of activities into 1 day.

First you have to decide on a target. 1 post per day or one per week? Something in between? Its up to you, but you need a goal to aim for.

Now lets plan ahead. Get a good start by listing 3 or 4 weeks of ideas. Just rough post titles is enough for now. You may not end up using some of these ideas, but we just need to make sure that you have plenty of material to work with.

Ok got a list of blog post ideas yet? Right lets start the 7 day plan!

Day 0. Choose 1 weeks worth of post ideas from your list. Write a draft of the first post, and write some rough notes for the remaining posts.

Day 1. Create a new blog entry for the first post but do not publish it yet. Give it a complete review. Write a first draft of the second post, and some more notes for the third post.

Day 2. Nicely format and then publish your first blog post - woohoo! Write a draft for the third post.

Day 3. Create a new blog post for the second post but do not publish it yet. Give it a complete review.

Day 4. Nicely format and then publish your second blog post - woohoo! Create a new blog entry for the third post but do not publish it yet. Give it a complete review.

Day 5. Add another 1 or 2 weeks worth of post ideas to your list. Just rough post titles is enough for now.

Day 6. Nicely format and then publish your third blog post - woohoo! Write a draft for next week’s first post.

Day 7. Take a well deserved break!

For the next week, return to day 1, rinse lather and repeat. Feel free to post fluff or filler posts in between your scheduled posts.

That’s a great schedule. Thank you. I have several blogs to manage, so I used to just set aside a full day for pre-posting my blog posts for the week. They’d automatically be published on the dates I entered.
Then during the week if I found interesting items or ideas, I’d simply bookmark them in a blog bookmarking folder, till my next full day of blogging.
Your schedule is also a good idea for article writing and publishing.
    Cheers, Thea

I’ve attempted to do something like what you suggest, but for a less intense schedule of every other day or so… what I stumble with, however, is “boredom” at the previously-chosen topic/draft, feeling it’s “dated” already in my mind, or I have a more “burning” issue to blog about… next thing I know I’ve got over 20 drafts I have yet to get to!

My downfall is very much the same as Lynne’s. If I don’t post soon after drafting a post, or even just considering what to write, it seems less than compelling and I find it hard to get back into it. However, perhaps with a schedule such as this I would get around to the next stage faster and so be less inclined to ditch the subject. I’ll certainly give it a try.

Thanks for the comments .. the main reason why I do it this way, is so that I have some time between writing a post, and actually posting it. Why? So that I can have a chance to consider if the post is any good or not.

Interesting approach. I usually just wing it, which works for my blog since it’s mostly just pictures of my daughter, anecdotes of our days, or random thoughts that I caught flitting through my head..

I love the draft and scheduling feature that I discovered about a month after I started my blog. Sometimes, I’ll draft a post and schedule it to run a few days later to give me time to get the pictures I want to put with it or just to even let it sit awhile before I go back to review and edit it some more. I try to post something each day on at least one of my blogs and no more than two posts a day on the same one. If it’s just a filler type post, I won’t schedule it but just leave it in my drafts to use when I hit a dry spell and can’t really think of anything worthwhile to post.
